The Cityscape Show X: Concrete and Earth
July 25 - October 10, 2020

For the last ten years, GBGLA has hosted The Cityscape Show every summer - the theme as been broad and covered a wide ranging group of artists and works.  It is a show we’ve taken great joy in putting together and sharing.  This year, the tenth anniversary of the show, is a bit different.

Life as we know it has changed dramatically and, perhaps in some ways, permanently.  We are living in this state of unknown here in Los Angeles.  But what remains unchanged is this astounding city we live in.  Made of concrete and earth, this city and landscape anchor us.  The long low skyline remains, the mountains ringing the LA basin stand, the ocean tides come and go, our enormous sky holds steady.  And in the midst of it all, the strange and beautiful metropolis of Los Angeles exists as a place and as a dream.

Los Angeles has always been a fantasy as much as a physical location.  And now we are all dreaming of the fantasy - waiting for the time that the Los Angeles we know and love can return in all its complexity.  But the physical city remains - waiting - holding its spaces for those future days.
